DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Many men are letting their facial hair grow out this month as part of the “Movember” movement.
The idea is to change the face of men’s health by raising awareness about prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer is second leading cause of cancer-related death in men in U.S., affecting about one in seven men. The good news is that survival rates have greatly improved.
The key is early detection. The American Cancer Society guidelines say that men should receive a Digital Rectal Exam (DRE) at age 50.
Dr. Douglas Gaker with Premier Urology Center in Middletown and Mike Snyder, a cancer survivor and leader of a Prostate Cancer Support Group, joined Mark Allan on Five on 2 to encourage men to get screened.
