SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The annual Government Reception held by the Springfield Regional Chamber is an opportunity for political officials to mingle with one another and share their ideas as well.
The reception gives businesses and community leaders the opportunity to meet socially with local, state, and federal officials following the end of the formal legislative session. More than 150 people attended Thursday’s event.
President of the Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce Jeff Ciuffreda told 22News the event establishes and reaffirms communication. He said, “We always listen to how politicians don’t listen to businesses and vice versa, and this is a perfect example to break that imaginary wall down and put folks together, and it’s worked great.”
We also asked local leaders about what the next focus should be for transportation services in western Massachusetts. Ciuffreda said we need to keep expanding; “Within the next year or so we need to get more commuter trains, not just the Montrealer, but commuter trains that go north to south. But at the same time, we can’t forget the east to west corridor.”
The Chamber’s Government Reception has been held over the last 20 years to share ideas about ways to improve the state.
