Eastfield Mall hosts Giving Tree to provide warm clothes for the homeless

They're accepting donations of scarves, socks and hats for the homeless

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Eastfield mall is offering everyone the chance to make a difference in someone’s life by donating scarves, gloves, hats and warm socks.

For the first time in years, the Eastfield Mall in Springfield is hosting a “Giving Tree” for the “Friends of the Homeless.”  They’ve set up a huge donation box surrounded by several trees; more of a “giving grove” than a giving tree.

They held a tree lighting Thursday to kick off the winter clothing drive.

“Our partners, the Springfield Falcons were out here,” said Friends of the Homeless Development Director Sarah Tanner.  “They helped us cut the ribbon, light the lights, and hang some of our early donations of hats, scarves and socks on the trees.  We’ll be collecting through the rest of the holiday season.”

The Friends of the Homeless Giving Tree is located near the Eastfield Mall food court.
