28 year-old man critically wounded in Springfield shooting

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield police are investigating shooting that happened Thursday afternoon in the city’s lower Forest Park neighborhood.

Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that the victim is a 28 year-old man, who is currently listed in critical condition.

According to Delaney, officers were called to the area of 33 Sachem Street shortly before 2:00 P.M., after the city’s “Shotspotter” system picked up the sound of six shots fired. When police got there, they found the victim, and provided first aid until EMTs arrived, and took him to the hospital.

Delaney said that detectives from the department’s Major Crimes were collecting evidence, and speaking to possible witnesses. They left the area around 6:00 p.m.

Sachem Street is a side street, located off Dickinson Street.
