WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Snow is not out of the question in November here in western Massachusetts. 22News is working for you with what is normal to see this time of the year.
New England is known for its changing weather. Most people who have been living in New England know this by now.
Sarah Torres, from West Springfield, is used to the changing weather in western Massachusetts, “Actually our cousins are coming up from Florida and we said pack a bathing suit, pack a winter jacket, pack all that stuff but for us if you’ve been here this has actually been a really great year.”
Just earlier this month, temperatures reached into the lower 70’s, breaking records. And for the most part temperatures have been above average, which for this time of the year is in the lower 50s. Our warmer November seems to be saving people money.
Justin O’connor, from West Springfield, told 22News the warmer weather has been saving him money, “So far its great we’ve been saving a lot of money on fuel and it makes it hard to get into the season cause it doesn’t feel like its November at this point it feel likes September.”
As for looking like November, it is normal to see some snow on the ground this month. That of course has not happened. But we have seen some snow flakes late just last month.
We haven’t seen any accumulating snow so far here in western Massachusetts but it is normal for us to see about two and a half inches by the end of this month.
As we get into the heart of winter, which officially begins December 21st of this year, our average snowfall increases.
One man 22News talked to likes the warm weather now, but is ready for some snow to fall soon.
John Atwater, from Easthampton, told 22News, “Considering I work construction I’m kinda happy about it but I’m ready cause I also ski and I’m ready to go.”
Looking into this week’s forecast, temperatures look above average.
