SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Drivers in Springfield might want to plan ahead this week. Another week of lane closures could impact your commute through downtown Springfield.
Monday morning, crews will begin paving work at 7AM to finish the work they started last week. This project is part of the first phase of the 3-year project to rebuild the elevated portion of I-91 in Springfield.
This week, crews will continue repaving sections of East and W. Columbus Ave. in Springfield, to prepare the roads for more traffic. This winter, more drivers will have to use these roads during Phase 2 of the I-91 reconstruction project.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation says during Phase 2, Exits 6 & 7 will be closed temporarily, forcing drivers to detour on city roads to get on and off the highway.
The delays this coming week will impact drivers on East Columbus Avenue, stretching from Hampden Street to the I-91 North ramp, and on West Columbus Avenue, stretching from Bernie Avenue to Hampden Street.
