Warning to WMass residents after increased heroin overdoses

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Heroin continues to be a problem in Western Massachusetts and now more people are falling victims to the drug.

Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni and Baystate Health are warning of an increased risk of overdose and death from using opiates, including heroin.

They said more people are overdosing from using the drugs in a spike over opiate-related emergencies over the last 72 hours.

DA Gullini also says a more lethal strain of heroin is being distributed in this area and use caution.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Springfield Police Department at 413-787-6310 or Text-a-Tip to the department.
