NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Five suspicious packages were found. Northampton Police Captain John Cartledge told 22News the packages were part of a time-lapse photography project by two local students.

The packages were made of card board and had a hole poked in them. Captain Cartledge didn’t know exactly what was inside, but said it was determined there was no threat to the public.

All five of the packages were found in various places along Main Street, including the traffic island by the rainbow crosswalk. Part of Main Street was shut down for a couple of hours.

Capt. Cartledge said, “With any suspicious package, our response would be similar. With the five that we found last night, it obviously increases our suspicion level and we want to take the proper precautions.”

At this time no charges have been filed. Northampton Police interviewed one of the student’s and they are in the process of interviewing another.
