Holyoke swears in eight new firefighters

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Eight new Holyoke firefighters took the oath Friday. Firefighting frequently runs in the family here in Western Massachusetts and this new group is no exception.

Michael Daly carries on the tradition started by his dad who was a firefighter in South Hadley. And Erryberto Izquierdo follows his younger brother as a Holyoke firefighter. “I’ve heard first hand from him being a Holyoke firefighter,” Izquierdo told 22News. “The inside of that brotherhood of Holyoke firefighters made me want to be a Holyoke firefighter.”

Also among the new crop of holyoke firefighters, Matthew morse, brother of Mayor Alex Morse. There were promotions as well: three new Lieutenants, two new captains and Mark Fortin was promoted to deputy chief.
