FBI to investigate student assault

(WIS) South Carolina law enforcement officials have asked the FBI to conduct an independent investigation into a physical altercation between a high school resource officer and a student.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says he’s asked the FBI to investigate the incident involving a school resource officer at Spring Valley High School.

Videos of the incident shows Officer Ben Fields flipping the female student out of her desk, then slamming her to the ground a second time.

A third video of the incident surfaced on Instagram. It shows the student throwing punches at the officer as he tries to remove her from her desk chair.

Fields, according to Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott, was acting in response to the student, who was refusing to leave class.
