Baby has died, 2 year-old still in critical condition after crash

Christina Russin, 31, of Sturbridge also died in accident

OXFORD, Mass. (WWLP) – A baby who was placed on life support following an accident on Route 20 in Worcester County has died. State police say that the eight month-old boy died Monday at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.

The driver of the Chevrolet Cavalier in which the baby was riding, 31 year-old Christina Russin of Sturbridge, died at the crash site. Another passenger in the car, a 2 year-old boy, is in critical but stable condition at UMass Memorial.

According to Massachusetts State Police Media Relations, Russin’s Cavalier collided head-on with a cement mixer on Route 20 near the Oxford-Charlton line Monday morning. The impact of the crash caused the Chevy to collide with a third vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz SUV. The cement mixer ended up on its side, causing liquid cement to spill onto the roadway.

The driver of the cement mixer and two people who were inside the Mercedes were taken to the hospital following the accident, but are expected to survive their injuries.

State police are continuing to look into what caused the accident. The identity of the baby who died is not being released by the Massachusetts State Police, and as a matter of policy, the agency does not disclose the relationships between accident victims.
