HOLYOKE Mass. (WWLP) – This weekend Holyoke Medical Center held their first ever ACE awards. Honoring exemplary staff members for their dedication to the Holyoke Community.
Dr. Samuel Mazza and civic leader Angela Wright were both honored with the Lifetime achievement award for their outstanding work.
Both Mazza and Wright have helped advance Holyoke Medical Center through community based healthcare and philanthropy.
They were both nominated by their colleagues.
Doctor Mazza told 22News, “I’m truly a fixture at the Holyoke Hospital. I’ve been there since 1971 and I was probably chairman of every committee they’ve ever had.”
Angela Wright said, “I think it will always be close to my heart. I think the quality of care is exceptional. They have a very dynamite staff. They’re innovative.”
Dr. Mazza is a Bronze Star recipient for his service during Vietnam. Mazza was a surgeon for over 47 years and has recently retired, but he still helps treat veterans.
Angela Wright has served on the board of HMC for over 37 years.
The black tie event was held at the MassMutual Center in downtown Springfield.
