AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – The former Games and Lanes property in Agawam has a new owner.

The town announced Tuesday that Site Redevelopment Technology has signed a purchase and sale agreement to acquire 246-350 Walnut Street Extension.  The Foxoro-based company cleans Brownfields and sells them to private developers.  The company plans to fix the contaminated site and redevelop the property.

The property has a long history in Agawam.  In 1989, chlorinated volatile organic compounds, a byproduct of dry cleaning chemicals, were discovered in the groundwater around the property.  Since then, several efforts to remediate the site have been in the works.

The purchase and sale agreement is contingent upon results of another round of environmental testing.  Director of Planning & Community Development Marc Strange said they should have results within the next few weeks.
