NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Monday on 22News, you heard the story of a woman with cancer struggling to have her insurance cover the cost of a wig.

Since that story aired, viewers have been calling and emailing us, asking how they can donate hair or money for women in this situation.

So we went to Cancer Connection in Northampton. It’s a thrift shop that raises money for free services for cancer patients and their families.

Anyone can donate clothes and household items, and anyone can buy them; all proceeds support free therapy. Many cancer survivors donate their wigs, other people buy wigs so they can donate them to those in need.

Christine Quinn, the assistant manager at Cancer Connection, said, “We provide them free of charge, anyone that’s looking for a wig can come in, they can ask us about the free program, we set them up in a place that’s private, they can take a look through any of the wigs that we have, try them on and take their time, and they can take whatever they need home for free.”

They’re always in need of more wigs, especially long hair wigs.

22News received one email from a woman who is cutting off her hair to create a wig for someone. If you’re considering that option, Click Here for information on how you can help.
