Tension in the Middle East

The current outbreak of violence was fueled by rumors that Israel was plotting to take over the area.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WWLP) – Secretary of State John Kerry says that an international presence in Israel to the end violence between Palestinians and Israelis is not needed.

Kerry says the U.S., Israel, and Jordan are all opposed to a French proposal for an international presence in Jerusalem, which is the center of escalating tension. Kerry will be meeting this week with Israeli’s prime minister, the Palestinian president, and the king of Jordan to go over where each country stands on the issue.

22News spoke with Senator Richard Neal who believes tension in the Middle East, including conflict in Syria, can be reduced without military conflict. “Well I don’t think that anybody can be happy with what’s happening in Syria that’s for sure. We need to figure out a way to engage them in hopefully a diplomatic manner.”

The current outbreak of violence was fueled by rumors that Israel was plotting to take over the area. Israel has denied those allegations.
