SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A block of Main Street in downtown Springfield was closed for more than an hour, following a fire in a building that houses two restaurants and two retail businesses.

Dennis Leger, aide to the Springfield Fire Commissioner told 22News that firefighters were able to put out the fire at 1236 Main Street fairly quickly. Leger said the fire is believed to have started in a furnace in the basement.

He said that the businesses were not open at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries. There was a lot of smoke, but the two restaurants, Sol Karibe and D’Asti Delicatessen, should be able to re-open once a health inspector clears them.

The Boost Mobile and Mike’s Beauty Shop located in the building are already open for business.

Main Street was closed between State Street and Falcons Way as firefighters worked, but by late morning, traffic was moving again.
