SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Columbus Day isn’t a big “shopping holiday,” but with the dropping temperatures, many people went to the malls to take advantage of the sales.
Columbus Day is a national holiday, so many people had the day off from work and students had the day off from school.
While many people chose to spend the day apple picking or enjoying fall festivities, some families spent the holiday at the mall with their kids.
22News went to the Eastfield Mall where parents were preparing for winter by stocking up on warm clothing.
Although Halloween is just weeks away, Miguel Santana of Springfield told 22News he’s surprised some stores have Christmas decorations up already. “”It’s not even Thanksgiving yet and already they have Christmas stuff out, so it kind of makes me uneasy sometimes because I’m like what should I do?” he said.
It may be too soon to do holiday shopping.
Experts say about one-third of some stores’ profits are made in the last two months of the year.
