CHICOPEE, Mass (WWLP) — Being stranded on Mars is no laughing matter, but “The Martian” manages to make Matt Damon’s predicament amusing, charming and frequently quite exciting.
On their ill-fated mission home from Mars, bickering astronauts Damon and Jessica Chastain find that outer space just isn’t big enough to accommodate both their jumbo egos.
They depart all right, but accidentally leave Damon on the red planet to fend for himself.
Director Ridley Scott who no doubt fell asleep watching “2001 A Space Odyssey” ages ago, made sure not to make that mistake by crafting “The Martian” into a hugely entertaining “Lost In Space’
With no dull spots.
Now that He’s got the planet all to himself, Damon’s got to do some fast thinking about survival.
He muses about finding a way to grow enough food to last him 3 years on a planet where nothing grows.
Damon’s having the time of his life and so will you with Scott’s lighter than gravity approach to Damon’s out of this world adventures.
Meantime back at NASA, they’re wracking their brains utilizing eccentric characters straight out of a Quentin Tarrantino movie.
Let’s not forget that Ridley Scott’s surrounded Matt Damon with terrific supporting players like Jeff Daniels.
