Refrigerator explodes inside home in South Hadley

Explosion caused structural damage to the home

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – South Hadley firefighters and building inspectors are trying to figure out what caused a refrigerator to explode inside a house Saturday morning.

South Hadley Fire Captain Jim Pula told 22News firefighters were called to 2081 Memorial Drive around 8:00 Saturday morning for reports of smoke.

Capt. Pula said a refrigerator inside the house exploded, causing structural damage to the home.

People were inside at the time, but no one was injured.

A representative from the building inspectors’ office is on his way to the house to try and figure out what caused the explosion, and whether the residents will be able to stay there tonight.
