CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The man found with serious injuries in Chicopee Center Monday night has died.
Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk told 22News officers were called to School Street just after 6:00PM on October 6th after young children reported finding a man that may have been assaulted. When police got there, they found the man on the ground with serious injuries.
Officer Wilk said police treated the incident as if the man was the victim of a crime. Police spoke with people and the area, as well as doctors and nurses at the hospital. Based on his injuries, it was determined that the man suffered some sort of medical emergency and was not the victim of an assault. He later died at the hospital.
The incident was first posted to the police department’s official Facebook page as a possible assault. Officer Wilk said when there is no definitive cause for injuries, police must treat the situation like a crime has been committed. He said evidence needs to be collected and preserved before it is destroyed or removed.
