Uncle Ben’s Food Truck teaches fresh recipes to Chicopee students

Visit organized as part of ChicopeeFresh program, which aims to get students on healthy track

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Students at Chicopee Comprehensive High School had the chance to learn some healthy recipes with fresh food grown locally.

The Uncle Ben’s Food Truck stopped in Chicopee during their national tour to show students how to cook with whole grain rice. It was used in recipes with fresh carrots, peppers and onions that were grown in Hadley. The visit was organized as part of the ChicopeeFresh program, which aims to get students on a healthy track early.

“You need to start young; you need to develop a healthy lifestyle,” said Chicopee Comp Director of Fodo Services Joanne Lennon. “At 40 you really don’t want to change it. It’s a lot more difficult to do when you’re older.”

ChicopeeFresh aims to serve the city’s 7800 students with the healthiest, locally grown options.
