Chicopee man suffered medical issue, no beating

Police prevented cars from turning onto School St. from Center St.

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Police were investigating in Chicopee’s Center, Monday night, after getting a report of a possible “beating.” However, after an investigation, it turned out to be a medical event.

Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk told 22News the man suffered a medical issue and was taken to Baystate Medical Center for treatment. Due to the man’s condition when officers arrived at School Street, they followed protocol and treated the area as a crime scene.

When 22News arrived on School Street around 8:00 p.m., detectives and uniformed police officers were securing a parking lot and gathering evidence at the corner of Center and School Streets. The lot was cordoned off with caution tape. Police were preventing any cars or trucks from turning onto School Street from Center Street.

Officer Wilk said earlier that the police activity started around 7:30 p.m. Monday. State Police was also called in to help with the investigation.

All the streets and parking lots have since been reopened.
