NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Community members from Northampton gathered to raise money for Syrian refugees. 22News was there to witness that community coming together for a good cause.
Hundreds of people came together for the Songs for Syria concert held at First Churches of Northampton. Concertgoers enjoyed live traditional Arabic music and stories of encouragement.
One woman told 22News after hearing the Pope speak about love and compassion for others, supporting this cause was something she had to do. “Just trying to expand our human consciousness around the globe, especially when you live in America things are ok in your life,” said Eloise Goddard of Northampton. “And to reach out to other people… people need it.”
The concert was held by the Valley Syrian Relief Committee. The group hopes to build awareness and send money to help refugees in Syria.
Thousands of Syrian people have fled their homes, many without access to food, shelter and medical care.
All the proceeds from this concert will benefit the Syrian American Medical Society, a tax exempt non-profit providing medical aid for victims of the Syrian conflict.
