(CNN) – Hyundai is recalling almost half-a-million cars whose engines can stall and cause a crash.
According to the national highway traffic safety administration, the recall could affects almost every 2011 and 2012 Hyundai Sonata made at a plant in Alabama.
Officials say some metal debris may have ended up in the cars’ crankshafts, which can cause engines to fail.
But NHTSA says only about two percent of recalled cars actually have the defect. There are no reports that the problem caused any crashes or injuries.
Owners of 2011 and 2012 model year Hyundai sonatas can contact any Hyundai dealer with questions about the recall.
