CHICOPEE Mass. (WWLP) – Governor Charlie Baker rededicated a former Chicopee High School after a national guardsman who died from injuries he suffered in Afghanistan.
The school, now a Middle school, was renamed Kevin Dupont Memorial Middle School on Saturday for 1st for Sgt. Kevin Dupont.
Dupont graduated from Chicopee High School in 1976.
Baker said he hopes the new name “will teach and inspire our next generation to learn from his courage, strength, and selflessness.”
Dupont was hit by an explosive in Afghanistan and died several months later.
