SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A group of Springfield based organizations came together on Thursday to raise awareness for climate change and its impact on the City of Springfield.
The Springfield Climate Justice Coalition held a rally at City Hall. They spoke, prayed, and sang their message in the hopes of getting the city to their climate action resolution which was passed last year.
The group believes it’s the right of every resident to breath clean air every day.
Jesse Lederman told 22News, “This is an example of the power of neighborhoods in Springfield, the power of the people in Springfield, and it’s also an important reminder of the role that local government can play in insuring that people are able to live clean and healthy lives.”
According to the Springfield Climate Justice Coalition, 1 in 5 residents has asthma. That includes 20% of children and 18% of adults.
