Holyoke Police arrest a homeless man with a loaded gun

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – A man was arraigned Thursday in Holyoke and charged with carrying a firearm without a license and five related counts.

Holyoke Police Lt. Jim Albert told 22News 18-year-old Anderson Garcia-Rodriguez was arrested Wednesday night, near 29 West Court in Holyoke, after he was allegedly seen carrying a handgun.

Anderson and another man, 25-year-old Angel Luis Rodriguez of Holyoke, were seen riding bikes in the area of Dwight and Walnut Streets when Holyoke Police Narcotics/Vice detectives arrived to investigate. Lt. Albert said Anderson attempted to run, but was later arrested on West Court.

Lt. Albert said the detectives searched Anderson and found a fully loaded Harrington & Richardson .22 cal revolver with 6 rounds loaded in the cylinder.

Anderson, who was labeled as homeless, was charged with the following:

  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Possession of Firearm Ammo without a License
  • Possession and Carrying of a Loaded Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm with Mutilated Serial Number
  • Carry a Firearm – Breach While Armed
  • Disorderly Conduct

Angel was also arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct.

Lt. Albert added that 3 days earlier, there was a shooting in the area of Dwight and Walnut Streets, so detectives were already in the area to suppress further gang activities.
