(WKYC) Police are investigating after an 8-month-old boy was found dead in a car in the Macedonia Walmart parking lot..
The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office has since identified the boy as Jayce Markell Benjamin of Garfield Heights. He was pronounced dead around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday.
According to the Macedonia Police Department, a parent or guardian drove the family’s four children to a day care around 8 a.m.
Three of the children got out of the car at the day care, but the 8-month-old was left in a car seat in the third row seat of the SUV.
The driver took the vehicle, a Buick Rendezvous, back to the family’s Garfield Heights home.
At approximately 11 a.m., the grandmother took the vehicle to her job at Walmart on Macedonia Commons Boulevard. The woman reportedly did not look in the back of the vehicle and did not see the baby.
Around 5:30 p.m., the baby’s mother called the grandmother to say the baby did not come home from the day care.
When the grandmother went out to the parking lot to check the vehicle, she found the baby dead.
