CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Chicopee police are urging people to check their banking statements if they used an ATM at the TD Bank branch on Meadow Street recently. Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk told 22News that equipment designed to steal customers’ personal information had been set up there.
According to Wilk, police were called to the bank at around 6:00 Sunday night, after a patron noticed some things there that seemed out of place. Only one of the two ATMs at the bank were operational, with one having a “closed” sign written on it. When police got there, they discovered that a scanner had been placed over the card reader at the door of the ATM room. On the working ATM itself, there was a green box installed, containing a miniature camera that could record people as they punched-in their PINs.
Wilk said that at this point, they do not know how long these items were at the bank, and there is no confirmation at this time that any personal information was stolen. They are urging people to check their account information, and run credit checks on yourself. If you notice anything wrong, contact your bank, and then notify Chicopee Police at (413) 592-6341.
