Active duty Marine accused of shooting, killing dog

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office says an active duty Marine was charged with animal cruelty after his dog was shot and killed.

Maj. Chris Thomas with the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office says 20-year-old Anton Prosyanitsky is charged with felony animal cruelty and two counts of misdemeanor discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.

The Sheriff’s Office says Prosyanitsky shot his labrador-chow mix dog at least four times over the weekend. They say the dog was originally shot on Friday, Sept. 18 but did not die, and was then was shot and killed on Saturday.

Maj. Thomas says the dog was buried when deputies arrived on scene.

Proyanitsky is an active duty Marine. He was released from jail on a $5,000 bond and appeared in court Monday. His next court date is scheduled for October 19th.
