Swimmer pulled from Westfield River has died

Swimmer located by rescue boats and state police helicopter

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – New information Sunday night on the swimmer that was pulled from the Westfield River.

Westfield Police Officer Steven Gonglik told 22News, the victim, a 14 year old boy from Chicopee, has died.

He was rushed to Baystate Noble Hospital at around 2:30 this Sunday afternoon.

He was swimming in the river with some friends just east of the Great River Bridge by Hanover Street.

The boy was pulled from the water by rescue boats, with help from a state police helicopter, but it was too late to save his life.
