Shots fired in downtown Monson, 3 men arrested

Three people are facing multiple charges

MONSON, Mass. (WWLP) – Three people will be arraigned Monday on multiple charges following a car chase and reports of multiple shots being fired near Main and Lincoln Streets.

Monson Police Chief, Stephen Kozloski told 22News that the police department got several 911 calls reporting two vehicles chasing a person on a bike. Witnesses also reported multiple gunshots were fired at the victim during the chase.

Chief Kozloski says officers stopped one of the vehicles and two people were arrested. A third person ran, but was caught and arrested a short time later. A fourth suspect is still missing.

Under arrest are 22-year-old Javier Nieves Jr., 20-year-old Philip Cuevas, and 21-year-old Cesar Vargas, all of Springfield. They’re each charged with possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, discharging a firearm within 500′ of a dwelling, two counts of assault by means of a dangerous weapon and possession of a class d drug.

All three will be arraigned in the Palmer District Court Monday morning.
