(NBC) – Fourteen-year-old Ahmed Mohamed is getting attention on social media from all over the world after his attempt to show off his technological skills at school were taken the wrong way.

Mohamed’s homemade clock was confused for a ‘hoax bomb’ by police and school officials.

When the clock started working and making noise, school officials thought it was suspicious and called police.

The teen was then searched and arrested.

“I built a clock to impress my teacher, but when I showed it to her she thought it was a threat to…so it was really sad that she took the wrong impression of it and I got arrested for it later that day,” said Mohamed.

The charges have been dropped and Ahmed received a personal invitation from President Barack Obama to show him the clock at the White House.
