Schemer selling fake tickets to a military program

The tickets have the words “Welcome Home Troops”

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Police are warning residents in western Massachusetts of a suspect claiming to be affiliated with the Westover Air Reserve Base, and attempting to sell fake tickets for a military program.

According to Holyoke Police Department Lt. Jim Albert, on Tuesday, September 15th, police received a report of a white man, clean cut and dressed with a professional appearance, going door to door on Homestead Avenue, attempting to sell $40 tickets for “Operation Military Pax,” a “meal ticket plan for Meals Ready for Veterans.”

Lt. Albert said the tickets have the words “Welcome Home Troops” and tells the purchaser to “retain for tax purposes.” The tickets also state that a “2015 Homecoming” will be held.

The suspect told one victim he was “affiliated with Westover” and had brochures with his photograph. Lt. Albert said this is a fake fundraiser and the United States Military does not do this.

If you see any suspicious and fraudulent activity in your neighborhood, you are asked to call your local Police Department.
