Monday’s temperature breaks all-time record for WMass

91-degree record was set in 1943

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Labor Day is traditionally seen as the end of the summer season, but the temperatures Monday had people in western Massachusetts feeling like it’s the middle of summer.

It hit 92 degrees at Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee Monday afternoon, breaking the all-time record temperature for September 7; that record was set back in 1943.

The average high for this time of the year is 76 degrees, making Monday’s temperature well above normal, though with the fall approaching, we are seeing dramatic differences in the daytime and nighttime temperatures.  Last night’s low temperature of 49 was actually below the average of 54.
