SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield police are investigating a shooting in the city’s Brightwood neighborhood Monday afternoon.

There is no word at this time on the severity of the victim’s wounds. Lt. Keenan told 22News, Major Crimes is now investigating. The victim was taken to Baystate Medical Center by a private car, following the shooting.

Springfield Police Captain William Collins told 22News the victim was shot around 3 this afternoon.

They haven’t confirmed whether the shooting occurred inside or outside of the apartment building, which is located at 101 Lowell Street in the city’s Brightwood Neighborhood.

Several residents who live in the building were outside when we first arrived, but most people said they didn’t see or hear anything. 22News spoke to one man who didn’t want to be shown on camera but said he didn’t know there was a shooting until police arrived.

“I’ve seen a lot of cops through here, I don’t know what was going on, they said there was a shooting, I didn’t know what it was about or anything. I just heard and saw everything that was going on out here, that’s it.”

This is still a developing story at this point. Police haven’t released any other information on the victim.

They also haven’t said whether they have any suspects in mind, but we’ll continue following this story for you and bring you new information starting at 10 on the CW Springfield.
