SPRINGFIELD Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield provided its own Labor Day weekend tradition with the Stone Soul Picnic at Blunt Park.
It began nearly 20 years ago with a goal to reunite Springfield families with former neighbors who had moved away, but return each year to exchange memories and renew acquaintances.
Charles Grandson told 22News, “I’m a former high school principal here in Springfield, people you might see in different industries in Springfield. But this time you come together you have a good chance to actually build community and relationships so it’s good to be here today.”
That feeling of community Charles Grandson refers to, has helped the stone soul community reunion picnic grow into New England’s largest African American festival. Stone Soul at Blunt Park continues Saturday and all day Sunday.
