Police: officer rescues 1-year-old who locked herself in BMW

The car's security system couldn't be overridden

NORWALK, Conn. (AP) — Norwalk police say an officer rescued a 1-year-old girl after the child accidentally locked herself in a BMW.

Police said Officer Jeremy Salley found the little girl red-faced and sweaty inside the car at about 11:30 a.m. Friday. She had been in the car, parked outside the Rowayton Library, for about 10 minutes.

The car’s security system couldn’t be overridden, so Salley used a spring-loaded window punch to break out the driver’s side window, crawled inside and brought out the baby. She was checked by EMTs who found she wasn’t hurt.

Police said the child had been playing with the keys when she locked herself in. The girl’s caregiver immediately called police and isn’t facing charges.
