SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – You may have noticed, there was a touch of fall to start off this Labor Day weekend. 22News was out talking with people to see what they were doing to take advantage of the cooler conditions.
You name it and people were out doing it. Running, walking, biking, and more! Mother Nature gave western Massachusetts a “feel like Fall” day, Saturday afternoon.
Verna Martin, from Springfield, told 22News, “It’s a lovely day. I’m enjoying it out here doing my exercises instead of going to the gym, I’m out at the park taking advantage of this weather, it’s beautiful out.” That’s just what people did at Forest Park in Springfield. It was packed with people being active.
Labor Day weekend this year is forecasted to be dry and sunny, but looking into the rest of the week, the heat comes back, with even the chance for a heat wave. A heat wave is three consecutive days of 90 degree temperatures, which we have not officially hit here in western Massachusetts, but summer is not giving up just yet.
When 22News asked people if they mind the heat, we found out it’s not the hot conditions they really mind.
Charles Smith, from Holland, told 22News, “I’ll take every degree day they give us now because in the winter time we won’t have it.”
Some people, like Joe Blay from Springfield, even refuse to complain about the heat. “I like the summer. I prefer it over the winter, I always say I save my complaining for the winter, so I don’t complain about the summer at all.”
Other people prefer the weather, just right, like Judy Holmes, from Springfield, “Not too hot, I love like 70 degree weather and below, not too cold, not too hot.”
Fall does not officially start until September 23rd, so there is still enough time for the summer heat to keep us warm.
