CHICOPEE Mass. (WWLP) – Labor Day is one of the busiest driving holidays and Gas is about a dollar cheaper than last year.

With more than 35 Million people traveling this weekend, GasBuddy estimates we’ll save $1.4 Billion dollars compared to last year.

Gas prices continue to drop, and just in time for one of the biggest travel weekends of the year.

One driver, who was on her way to Maine, told me she has big plans for her savings. Laurie LaBree said, “It only cost me $20 to fill my tank and it usually cost me about $30, $35 dollars. So that helps, a lot. That’s $15 more I can spend on my grandson.”

The lower gas prices will allow people to spend more, and that helps the economy.

According to GasBuddy, the national average price for gas this Labor Day is $2.44 per gallon.

But it’s even lower around here. We saw gas for $2.19 in Springfield.
