SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – It began as a community reunion picnic for Springfield’s Mason Square neighbors, and has grown into New England’s largest African American festival.
Featuring barbecue and blues, rides, slides and fried dough, The 2015 Stone Soul Festival began its three-day run in Blunt Park Friday night.
They have racks of ribs, barbecued chicken, gospel music and jazz.
A long time participant told 22News that Stone Soul is about family and community. “This is the only festival that gives away food,” said Lloyd Creswell. “We give food to people on Sunday. We celebrate family. We have mothers, fathers, kids, grandkids. We have generations here.”
The festival will hold its annual tag sale and flea market.
The Stone Soul Festival runs Saturday from nine to nine, and Sunday from 10:30 to nine.
