WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A West Springfield woman is upset that she and five children in her care were without water for 24 hours.
Mariel Markham woke up Monday morning to learn her water had been shut off. She called the water division and found out her bill was overdue.
Markham told 22News she went downtown immediately to pay it, but was told her service wouldn’t be restored until crews finished turning service off to 100 other customers.
“It didn’t matter how much money you owed,” Markham said. “You could have owed $400, you could have owed $24, they shut off your water. As soon as you pay it, it should be restored.”
Markham admitted she missed the warning by mail while she was out of state for personal reasons. But she’s angry that she and her kids had no water for a full day after the balance was paid.
