Schools bathrooms go gender neutral

(WDTN) Gay and transgender support groups are applauding Troy, Ohio School District’s decision to add a gender neutral bathroom in every school.

Both Equality for Ohio and The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network plan to hold a rally supporting district leaders outside the Board of Education Tuesday morning.

The superintendent says the district has a transgender student enrolled, and he says there is a lot that goes into a decision like this.

However, the main factor is the federal law, Title IX. Often, people think of that when it comes to equality in athletics. The mandates of the law have expanded since the 1970s when it was first enacted; the law was challenged in 2013, specifically on gender identity.
