JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A graphic picture floating around Facebook has some people in the metro on edge.

The disturbing image has gone viral and could lead to criminal charges. A cat that appears to have been badly burned laying in the middle of the street.

According to police the post came from a woman they believe lives here in Jackson, MS.

This picture hit the web at some point last night. The photo appears to have been posted by a user profile with the name “Shay Houston.”

She went on to write several statements mocking the act. We reached out to animal rescuers who tell us this is the worst case of violence against animals they’ve seen.

Jackson police are investigating and criminal charges could come when the person behind the post is tracked down.

“An innocent animal couldn’t do anything bad enough to suffer what that animal suffered and to leave it alive then brag about it–that was even worse,” says Janet Madden with Community Animal Rescue and Adoption.

The post has been shared a number of times and has sparked outrage in people who see it. Investigators are working with animal control as they try to track down the woman behind the page.

If you know anything about the woman pictured or can help with this case, contact police.
