Cooling centers open in Springfield

Cooling centers will be open in libraries in Springfield both Tuesday and Wednesday.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – There will be cooling centers open in Springfield both Tuesday and Wednesday for people to find some relief from the hot weather.

The following cooling centers will be set up at libraries throughout the city:

  • Brightwood, 359 Plainfield St. – Tuesday from 1pm – 8pm and Wednesday from 1pm – 5pm
  • East Forest Park, 122 Island Pond Rd. – Tuesday from 1pm – 5pm and Wednesday from 1pm – 8pm
  • East Springfield, 21 Osborne Terr. – Tuesday from 1pm – 5pm and Wednesday from 1pm – 8pm
  • Forest Park, 380 Belmont Ave. – Tuesday from 10am – 5pm and Wednesday from 1pm – 5pm
  • Indian Orchard, 44 Oak St. – Tuesday from 1pm – 5pm and Wednesday from 1pm – 8pm
  • Mason Square, 765 State St. – Tuesday from 1pm – 5pm and Wednesday from 10am – 5pm
  • Sixteen Acres, 1187 Parker St. – Tuesday from 1pm – 8pm and Wednesday from 1pm – 5pm

Additional Sites:

  • Greenleaf Community Center, 1187 1/2 Parker St. – Tuesday and Wednesday from 2pm – 8pm
  • Hungry Hill Senior Center, 773 Liberty St. – Tuesday and Wednesday from 2pm – 8pm

To avoid heat related injuries, you should stay indoors as much as possible, eat a well balanced meal, stay hydrated and dress for the weather. Keep an eye on children, senior citizens and pets, and be sure to wear sunscreen if you must be outside.
