AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – We all know it’s important to drink enough water every day. The question is, how much is enough?
22News spoke with exercise physiologist, Ashley Brodeur from Active Lifestyle Fitness in Agawam, on how much people should be taking in. To start, she mentioned that you need to consider specific information to figure out just how much water you need.
It’s everywhere on social media, the “the must do’s” regarding necessary water intake.
Kristyn Malaughlin, from Springfield, told 22News, “I’ve been trying to drink a gallon a day, this is recent the last few weeks.”
Some of us choose to drink water only certain times.
Jidalthis Ferrer, from Springfield, told 22News, “I really don’t drink water often only really when I work out but I really should be drinking more water.”
You need water every day. Not just when you work out. Water not only keeps you hydrated in this hot weather, it maintains your heart rate, and blood pressure. When it comes to how much water you need to stay healthy, it’s NOT a “one-size-fits-all.”
You need to factor in weight, age, how active you are, what you do during the day, and if it’s a job, are you sitting the whole time.
Brodeur went into detail explaining this, “If your outside, if your active, if you do hard workouts, obviously you need more water, you may need more than eight glasses a day. If your a smaller person, sit a desk all day in the air conditioning and you don’t do much exercise, you may not need all that much.”
If you are an active, healthy person, half a gallon to a gallon of water should be enough each day.
If you are out on these hot-humid days you need to consider that, and know you are losing a little more water weight than if you were working inside. And that that water needs to be replaced.
