Major water main break caused traffic issues in Chicopee Falls

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Water is back on after a water main break in Chicopee Falls Friday afternoon left hundreds of residents without any.

Chicopee Water Superintendent Alan Starzyk told 22News construction crews hit a water main just after 2:00pm on Broadway St. near First Central Baptist Church. Huge amounts of water from the break was flowing downhill along East Street and Broadway Street, all the way down to the intersection of East Main and Main Street.

22News spoke with a nearby Chicopee resident who came home to the water shut off in her house. Kathy Soto said, “It’s now going to affect the kids, so now I’m going to have to go to my mom’s house and take a shower. So it’s a little inconvenient.”

Water was restored at around 8:30 Friday night. 450,000 gallons of water were lost.
