SPRINGFIELD Mass. (WWLP) – Area students are preparing to go back to school, some already back at school.
The Boys and Girls Club on Acorn Street in Springfield is making sure the children have everything they need to feel “ready” for school.
Thanks to the generosity of multiple donors, 75 kids Friday, received brand new backpacks filled with school supplies.
The goal of the event was to promote the role that the boys and girls club can play in a child’s academic success, especially during those hours after school. This was all a surprise to several young students Friday.
Diana Christopher said, “I think it helps them understand just how much we support them and academics being one of the number one things we support here at the boys and girls club family center. So we want to make sure we’re putting our money where our mouth is in terms of providing the service that we promise to our parents and families.”
The Boys and Girls Club has been part of the city of Springfield for more than 100 years. They provide after school programs for many kids in the area.
A new session will start on Monday as all Springfield kids head back to school.
