Springfield Rescue Mission prepares to move to new facility

New facility is twice the size of former building

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Springfield Rescue Mission is close to moving into its new home at the former Orr Cadillac building on Mill Street.

The rescue mission’s new home in the South End will replace their building on Bliss Street being taken for the MGM casino resort project.

The rescue mission’s Ron Willoughby told 22News, he’s hoping to move quickly. “If we don’t get things put together very early in November, it’ll affect everything thereafter and that’s a busy time of year for us and not a good time to move.”

The new rescue mission building has enough space to increase by 50 percent the number of beds for the homeless.

The new dining room will accommodate 100; twice the size of the facility the mission’s occupied for the past 60 years.
