photo 1LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – Drivers headed toward Connecticut had to deal with backups on I-91 southbound Tuesday morning, due to a tractor trailer fire just north of the state line in Longmeadow.

State Trooper David Vincent told 22News that a brake fire in a tractor trailer was reported at around 8:10 A.M. at the 0.8 mile marker. A state trooper helped put the fire out with an extinguisher, but the Longmeadow Fire Department was also called in.

Though the fire was quickly controlled, the right hand lane of the highway was closed for hours, leading to backups that at one point stretched as far back as Springfield.

The truck has been cleared, and traffic is now moving freely in the area.
